NOTE: many foods you have stored in #10 cans, when opened, need to be put into a large glass bowl, cover with a clean cloth, let sit 24 hours....this removes the tin can smell.....

The oatmeal our family uses most often is Quick Oatmeal, although we keep a small supply of **rolled oats also. Oatmeal is very inexpensive, and a healthy whole grain. The oatmeal needed
for a normal breakfast cereal will usually cost about 3 to 6 cents per serving; it will depend upon
your purchase decisions. Always hunt for the very best price in bulk for day to day use. And for
long term storage, we like to go with the #10 cans because storage life is 30 years under proper storage conditions.

Things we make with quick oatmeal:
Oatmeal milk
Oatmeal pancakes
Instant oatmeal cereal
Oatmeal cereal with peanut butter
Oatmeal cereal with raisins or craisins
Oatmeal applesauce cereal
Oatmeal with fresh fruit in season
Apple cinnamon oatmeal
Baked oatmeal
Oatmeal bread / rolls / buns
Oatmeal muffins
Bannocks
"Chicken-fried" dinner patties
Oatmeal coconut cookies
Apple crisp
Classic oatmeal raisin cookies**
Company dessert (cake mix, oatmeal, pie filling)

**We like to use rolled oats for these classic cookies

**Another recipe using rolled oats: I saw a similar version to my "Chicken-Fried Dinner Patties" on
a site, but made with rolled oats and called 'steaks', look it up on The Prudent Homemaker.
