Family Chocolate Chip Cookies
Our family's fave chocolate chip cookie for over 40 years. Remember that these days there are several kinds of healthier shortening to choose from....

1 c. sugar
1 stick butter, softened
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 large eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. whole wheat flour
1 and 1/4 c. unbleached flour
1 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375°. Mix sugar, butter, shortening, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla; stir until creamy.
Add flours, salt, baking soda. Mix thoroughly; add in chocolate chips, and nuts if choosing. Drop
by teaspoonfuls (or small cookie scoop) onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool 1 minute on pan; remove to cooling racks.

Tip: if cookies 'thin out' too much when baking, this means you need to add a bit more flour. Batter should not feel sticky to touch.
